The First Friday Art Walk Holiday Window Decorating Contest

Once upon a time, downtown Springfield was known for its fabulous holiday window decorations. First Friday Art Walk would like to see downtown revive this tradition while raising money for local charities. We invite our fellow downtown businesses to join us for Windows on the Walk. Launched last year, this window decorating contest pairs businesses and local charities on a mission of holiday cheer. Top entries in 2015 were Fundraising Winner Christmas Windows at the Fox from History Museum on the Square and Season’s Readings from Park Central Branch Library.

Rules: This contest is open to all businesses located in Downtown Springfield, MO. The contest kicks off Nov. 28 as part of the Festival of Lights.  Each participating location will partner with a local charity. An entry comprises the application (below) and a digital image of the shop window. The deadline to enter is Nov. 28; there is NO fee to enter. Participants will be promoted on social media, in a press release and on the ffaw.org website.

Voting: The public will choose their favorite windows in two ways: by liking an image of their favorite on Facebook and/or Instagram; and/or by making a donation to charity at the location of their favorite Window on the Walk. Each venue is encouraged to create not only a distinctive shop window, but a distinctive collection box to accept donations for their benefiting charity. Venues also are encouraged to involve their benefiting charities in window design, decorating and on-site donation collection during Art Walk Dec. 2 and Second Saturday Dec. 10. Voting concludes on Second Saturday Dec. 10. Winners in the Social Media and Fundraising competitions will be announced in a press release, on the web site and on social media.

Donations: Each participating location is required to partner with a local charity and encouraged to actively engage their charity in the contest. Charities and locations will be partnered on a first-come, first-served basis, so if you have a favorite charity, speak up now! We encourage you to select charities with ties to the downtown area, but all charities are welcome. Donations must be totaled by Monday, Dec. 12, and reported by a designated representative of each benefiting charity. The locations whose windows raise the most money and/or get the most likes online, wins!

Entering is easy! Copy and paste these questions and your answers into an email to ArtWalkNews@gmail.com,
attach a high-quality digital picture of your window, and email it by Monday Nov. 28 to enter. Entries received by Nov. 21 will be marked on the Dec. 2 Art Walk Map (must be within existing map boundaries).
